TACLOBAN AIR BASE, Philippines (Nov. 15, 2013) – Displaced Filipinos and international personnel prepare for takeoff inside a C-17 Globemaster III during Operation Damayan to Manila. The aircraft is assigned to the 535th Air Lift Squadron from Hickam Field, Honolulu. The 3rd Marine Expeditionary Unit is supporting the Philippine armed forces in providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief to areas affected by Typhoon Haiyan. (U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. When I visited this village to conduct Needs Assessment and create a Situation Report, we could see the river stream already in the village and looking at it’s speed we could make out that this village would be under water in the next few hours. Community members of the village were digging out mud and using it to increase the basement size of their huts to prepare themselves.
